Tea Party

Kate brings the little girls to their first tea party as Jon spends time with Mady and Cara back at the house.

This week on "Jon & Kate Plus 8," Jon and Kate recalled a trip the family had taken to the beach this past summer.

Most of the trip was focused on Kate and the time she spent with the little kids. Mady and Cara had to go back home and finish their last week of school, so Jon went back with them.

During this trip, Kate wanted to do small, individual outings with each group of kids. For this, she brought the little boys on a tour of a battleship. For the little girls, she spent a day with them in town.

To begin this special day, Kate and the little girls had a tea party. Everyone had a good time. Two of the three girls liked the berry tea they were served, and all the little girls were fascinated with the sugar cubes. Kate on the other hand, tried not to worry too much about combination of the 4-year-olds and glass. They all liked the fact that this was their "special time," and that the boys weren't invited. The little girls mentioned this numerous times.

To continue their day, Kate and the girls visited a bead shop where they made beaded bracelets. Everyone made their own unique bracelet, and Kate made bracelets for Cara and Mady as well. The earth beads she used represented that "she will always be with them no matter how far away [she] is."

Kate and the girls finished their day with some shopping and ice cream. The little girls especially enjoyed the ice cream. Kate was surprised with Leah's choice of rainbow ice cream. It didn't seem like her type of ice cream.

While the Kate and the girls spent their day in town, the little boys spent theirs' back at the hotel with the babysitter. Much of it was spent swimming.

Back at home, Jon spent quality time with Cara and Mady. During this time, Jon gave both Cara and Mady a pair of earrings he had bought for them in New York. He said he wanted to do it because he felt that sometimes they got left out with so many siblings around. Both of the girls were very excited about them, and they both liked them a lot.

Jon and the girls also made a bonfire that week. Cara and Jon enjoyed it a lot while Mady didn't like it as much.

As this week's episode came to a close, both Jon and Kate were happy with the individualized time they were able to spend with their kids. As Kate concludes, "When you're a kid of one of eight, it's very different than being a kid of one, or a kid of three."
