TEAM USA Rolls to Gold Medal

USA 118. Argentina 81

Saturday night, USA basketball accomplished something that it hadn't done in its last few attempts -- it won something.

Jason Kidd led the team without taking a shot and the USA rolled to a 118-81 victory over Argentina to win the FIBA Americas gold medal. There was never any doubt as to the outcome of the game, as the USA outscored their opponent by 20 points in the first quarter alone. The great start was in large part thanks to stellar three point shooting by Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James. James finished with 31 points.

But the true test for Team USA will happen at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The USA failed to win the Gold medal in 2004 after dominating Olympic play in 1992, 1996, and 2000 with the "Dream Teams." Some might argue that the current USA team is as good as its been since the original Dream Team, led by Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson, in 1992.

Next year at the Olympics, we'll see if they are right.
