Talk about your unlikely superstars. Last fall, AMC found their newest smash hit in spooky drama The Walking Dead, which didn't feature suave advertising executives or meth-cookin' chemistry teachers, but groaning, dead-eyed, shuffling zombies.
Based on the equally dark and gritty graphic novel series by Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead takes place in an apocalyptic society that's nearly overrun by the blood-thirsty, diseased "walkers." Former sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) is the leader of a small band of survivors who hop from place to place in search of more people and less zombies.
Last year's six-episode season received high praise from critics, and the finale brought in an impressive 6 million viewers.
According to The Huffington Post, the Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption)-produced series is set to return for a 13-episode sophomore season this October, but AMC released a sneak peek during the season premiere of Breaking Bad on Sunday.
The clip is short, sweet and just what viewers and fans should come to expect from the somber but thrilling series. Without giving too much away, the clip basically features Grimes, in all his sweaty badassery, fending off a zombie in a cinematic but gory fashion, of course.
Kirkman told Collider earlier this year that the upcoming season will be full of "all kinds of crazy stuff."
"I can say, sitting here knowing what I know about the second season, that you can’t even see the bar because it’s been raised so much," Kirkman said.
With a panel planned for the upcoming Comic-Con, it's likely that fans could get even more brain-food teasers within the next couple of days.
