The Terminator Franchise in New Hands
Today, The Halcyon Company announced its acquisition to the rights of the Terminator franchise. With this new legal right, the company will be allowed to produce all future Terminator projects, and will have certain rights regarding merchandise and the television project, The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
The company, led by two CEOs, Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek, is a recently founded film company that develops, produces, and finances films. Says Kubicek, "The Terminator franchise represents by far the most popular and successful franchise not owned by a major studio."
In the future, for the franchise, is the T4 movie, scheduled to be released in early 2009. After a very successful Terminator 3 film, entitled Rise of the Machines," which generated over $450 million, the Halcyon Co. must feel pretty confident and excited about their new purchase.
On the plans for the Terminator franchise, Anderson said, "We plan to maximize the potential of the Terminator franchise by entering into strategic relationships with world class merchandising and licensing partners."
The Halcyon Company's first film, Cook-Off!, recently won an HBO Aspen Comedy Festival award, potentially telling of the company's future success.
