There's a New 'God of Carnage'

Yasmina Reza’s God of Carnage has been named a hit ever since it premiered on Broadway last year. Directed by Matthew Warchus, the comedy tells the story of two sets of parents who confront each other after their sons get caught fighting in school. One of the biggest selling points of the play’s debut was its starry cast. It featured an A-list cast of The Sopranos star James Gandolfini, Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, and Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden. Upon its opening, Reza’s play received rave reviews and went on to earn Tony Awards for Best Play and Best Director. In addition, Marcia Gay Harden’s acclaimed performance earned her the award for Best Actress in a play.

Through February 28, the play will be performed by Christine Lahti, Annie Potts, Jimmy Smits, and Ken Stott. Starting in March, however, a new quartet of actors will be filling out these dynamic roles. Jeff Daniels, of the original cast, will be returning to the production in the role originally performed by Gandolfini. Dylan Baker (Spider-Man) and Janet McTeer, who was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for HBO’s Into the Storm, will also be joining the cast. Perhaps the most interesting addition to the cast, however, is Charlie’s Angels and Kill Bill star Lucy Liu, making her Broadway debut with the production.
