Ticket prices falling in the Bronx
The temperature isn't the only thing falling in New York these days.
According to the AP, online ticket prices for this week's World Series games in New York are falling dramatically. This decline can be attributed to the rainy forecast and uncertainty of whether or not the games will be played.
Resale prices for tonight's game in the Bronx against the Phillies have dropped, from around $330 per ticket to $270. Experts predict that price will drop even lower, to around $200, as game time approaches.
According to an AP interview with Don Vaccaro, CEO of Ticketnetwork.com, ticket prices in Philadelphia have remained steady.
"They're two huge markets close together. There should be a big rivalry there," Vaccaro said. "The Philadelphia ticket is holding up, the New York ticket is not."
Even with the decline in ticket prices, the average family of four might have trouble being able to afford postseason baseball. Add parking and food expenses to the already high ticket prices and you're looking at about a $1,000 trip to the ball park.
Compare that to 1927 when the Babe Ruth and the Yankees won their 2nd World Series Championship. Fans could enjoy the game for a mere $5.50.
For some fans, the chance to see a World Series game is worth the high price.
"If that's going to be money that's going to be a mortgage payment or a kid's college fund, no, but was that experience worth it at the time? Yes," said New York City resident and Phillies fan Ethan Blum.
