Tila Tequila Charges Boyfriend with Abuse

TV personality Tila Tequila called the San Diego authorities Sunday morning to arrest her boyfriend, San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman, on accounts of domestic abuse. He was accused of choking and restraining Tequila as she tried to leave his home after a party.

The local authorities arrived at Merriman's house at 3:45 a.m. after Tequila put in the call. The sports player was taken into police custody to the central jail at 8:30 a.m. He was released at 11 a.m. Tequila was taken to the hospital where her condition has not been made known.

Tequila signed a citizen's arrest warrant which charges Merriman with battery and false imprisonment. Yet Merriman's attorney, Todd Macaluso, disputes the claims, saying that his client "was doing what was appropriate under the circumstances in trying to protect the safety of Miss Tequila. There were numerous eyewitnesses that will support his version of the events that transpired at his home."

On the question of whether or not Tequila was planning on driving drunk, Macaluso would not comment. Tequila, whose real name is Tila Nguyen, is best known from the reality dating show, "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila."
