Tim Burton Tackling New "Alice in Wonderland" Film

Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" Well Underway

Finally.

Given Tim Burton's track record of making whimsical yet disturbing and dark fantasy movies in the past (such as "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Edward Scissorhands"), one would think that any producer would have selected him for a modern day remake of this classic story years ago. After all, remakes are always in with moviegoers, and a remake of story so beloved and bizarre is a long time coming. There is no more obvious choice to create such a fantastical film, as Tim Burton's unique aesthetic style has time and again captivated viewers. The only contemporary director that seems anywhere close to suitable for this film is Guillermo del Toro, who created such films as "Pan's Labyrinth." His odd characters are too hellish and lack the childishness that Tim Burton will no doubt bring to the film.

The movie features a host of A-list actors as well. Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, and Alan Rickman all play large roles in the film, whereas the only relatively unknown actor in a starring role is Mia Wasikowska, who plays Alice. The film is due out on May 5, 2010.
