Tim Robbins Joins 'Green Lantern'

Joins Ryan Reynolds in the comic book action film

Tim Robbins has joined the comic book-based film Green Lantern.

He will play the father of the movie's villain, Senator Hammond, according to Heat Vision.

Robbins won an Oscar for Mystic River and received a nomination for his role in Dead Man Walking.

Ryan Reynolds will star as Hal Jordon/The Green Lantern, with Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, the Jordon's love interest.

Hammond's son, Dr. Hector Hammond, played by Peter Sarsgaard, becomes infused with psychic powers and, in the comic stories at least, becomes insanely intelligent as well as telekinetic.

The movie will start filming in March in New Orleans and, if all goes as planned, will have a June 2011 release date.

Greg Berlanti and Michael Green wrote the film, and Martin Campbell (Edge of Darkness, Casino Royale) will direct.
