Tina Turner Comes out of Retirement and Will Tour Once Again
After an eight-year break, Tina Turner announced to Oprah Winfrey on her talk show that she will start a U.S. Tour on October 1, 2008 at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Tickets go on sale May 12; Reuters stated that the North American tour is "likely to be followed by engagements in Europe and other international dates."
Turner told her fans at her Zurich concert in 2000 that she was planning to retire from live performances. A spokesman for Turner said at the time, "She wants to go out at the top." Since then, the 68-year-old songstress has performed with Beyonce Knowles this past February at the Grammy Awards, as well as with the legendary Cher in Las Vegas before 4,000 people. According to the Associated Press, the performance with Cher was taped by Oprah's show and is scheduled to broadcast May 8.
Tina Turner is famous for various R&B hits such as "What's Love Got to Do with It?" and her tumultuous relationship with ex-husband Ike Turner, who BBC News reported died last year. The relationship was featured in a 1993 biographical film starring Angela Bassett.
