Titanic Stars to Team Up Again
A decade after Titanic swept the nation, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio are finally teaming up again. The actors' on-screen chemistry carried Titanic to box-office success, to put it mildly. Now, Winslet and DiCaprio will costar in Revolutionary Road, a film directed by Winslet's husband, Sam Mendes. This is the first time that the actress has collaborated with her director husband, who lays claim to such films as American Beauty and Road to Perdition. The screenplay is written by Justin Haythe, the same man who penned The Clearing, costarring Helen Mirren and Robert Redford.
Revolutionary Road is based upon a 1961 novel by Ricard Yates. The story follows a Connecticut couple, April and Frank Wheeler, in the 1950s. On the surface they are happily married, but begin to feel the pressure of conforming and react by taking off for France to satisfy an artistic itch.
Originally, Matt Damon was lined up for the role, but scheduling conflicts would have delayed the film's shooting until the latter part of 2008. But when Winslet crossed paths with DiCaprio during the most recent award season, she brought it up, and he got onboard.
