TNT nabs rights to 'Basterds'
TNT has purchased the basic cable rights to the Weinstein Co.'s 2009 war drama "Inglourious Basterds."
According to an article on Variety.com, "Brad Pitt starrer about revengeful Jews who kills Nazis during World War II has been a hit with an $111 million domestic take. Cabler will pay around $12 million for the pic, using the standard cost equation for acquisitions -- approximately 8%-10% of the box office, with a cap."Quentin Tarantino wrote and directed the film, which beat his 1994 magnum opus "Pulp Fiction," which starred John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Bruce Willis and Ving Rhames. The Variety.com article goes on to say that the, "Cabler's window to start airing the film begins in May 2012. Showtime has the pay cable rights to the film."
Pitt recently starred in the Academy Award nominated 2008 romantic drama "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" opposite Cate Blanchett as well as the 2008 dramedy "Burn After Reading," the 2007 Steven Soderbergh-directed crime comedy "Ocean's Thirteen," which starred George Clooney, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and John Malkovich, the 2005 romantic action comedy "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," opposite Angelina Jolie, 2001's "Ocean's Eleven," opposite an all-star cast including Clooney, Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, Andy Garcia, Julia Roberts, Elliott Gould and Don Cheadle, 1999's "Fight Club" where Pitt starred opposite Edward Norton and 2001's "The Mexican" opposite Julia Roberts.
