Today Is Elvis Presley's Birthday

On January 8, 1935, Elvis Aaron Presley entered the world. He died in 1977 at the age of 42, and were he alive today, would be 74. All alien and conspiracy theories aside, the King is remembered for his massive contribution to America culture.

The King of Rock and Roll still has a huge fan base today. In 2007, the 30th anniversary of his death, over 600,000 people celebrated at his Graceland estate. In 2008, Presley was number one on Forbes' list of highest grossing dead celebrities. There is a satellite radio network devoted to his music.

Elvis brought the sound of rhythm and blues to the mainstream, and later in his life became the King of Las Vegas. His Hollywood career is well known, and there are few people who do not know who Elvis is. In some ways, he succumbed to his own massive stardom, and his life is a powerful statement of the humanity that lives within all of us.

Few celebrities hold the public's imagination and attention like Elvis, and on his birthday, it's obvious that he left behind a legacy that is larger than life.
