Tom Cruise is Welcome in Germany

Contrary to previous reports, Tom Cruise will be allowed to film new movie in Germany.

According to the Hollywood Reporter the German Defense Ministry stated Thursday that the country is allowing Tom Cruise to shoot the upcoming war flick "Valkyrie" within its borders.

The controversy came about when parliament member Antje Blumenthal posted on her website last week, saying that the Defense Minister Frank-Josef Jung had vowed that Cruise would not be allowed to film due to his adherence to Scientology.

Scientology is not a recognized religion Germany. Instead it is considered a dangerous cult on par with neo-Nazism and is under official observation.

However the German film industry is welcoming "Valkyrie" since it is considered a boost to the nation's image. Ministry officials said that they would "look agreeably" at the application for the film to be shot there.

The film is based on a true story of a failed German military plot to assassinate Hitler. Cruise plays one of the conspirators, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, who was later executed after Hitler survived the assassination attempt.
