Tom Petty Playing Super Bowl

Tom Petty to play Super Bowl

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will play the halftime show at Super Bowl XLII, according to the Associated Press, which will take place on Feb. 3 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ.

Prince performed last year's halftime show, delivering a memorable performance in the rain. Petty's music was used during last year's NBA playoffs.

Petty is a fan favorite who will undoubetdly bring a new face to the football program, who has been running under the radar since Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake's nipplegate fiasco. Since then, Paul McCartney and Prince have tread the boards in more sedate and respectful half-time shows.

Luckily, it seems that old-time rockers who have put their raunchy past behind them are the norm for programmers, who would rather not run the risk of losing sponsers at the eleventh hour.
