The first trailer for Cabin in the Woods, the long-delayed horror film produced by Joss Whedon, finally debuted on the web Monday. The film was directed by Drew Goddard, who wrote Cloverfield, and Chris Hemsworth, who has since become a star with Thor.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the new trailer is filled with spoilers, showing a group of young friends doing what all groups of young friends do in horror movies. They wander into the woods to find a spooky cabin, except this one happens to be controlled by some external force that seems to be toying with them.
The film was made back in 2009, when posters with slogans like “If something is chasing you... split up” and “If an old man warns you not to go there... make fun of him” were first released, according to The Washington Post. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cabin in the Woods, which Whedon also co-wrote, is set for release on April 13, 2012.
The film’s other stars include Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Kristen Connolly, Brian J. White, Amy Acker, Fran Kranz and Jesse Williams.
Whedon’s other major project, The Avengers, in which Hemsworth stars as Thor, is set for release on May 4.
