Trailer Park- 1/27 Edition

Most of the new films out in theaters this week will keep viewers in suspense. The thrillers focus on survival and those breaking the law. Among the lawbreakers are cops themselves.

Katherine Heigl plays Stephanie Plum, an unemployed Jersey girl who gets a job as a bail bonds woman in One for the Money. Without any formal training or weapons, Stephanie becomes a recovery agent at her cousin's company where she takes on the case of a former cop and murder suspect. Nabbing him will not only get her some quick money, but it will also be revenge. The bail jumper happens to be her former high school crush that seduced her and then left her high and dry. The one hour and forty-six minute comedic action film is rated PG-13. It costars Jason O'Mara, Daniel Sunjata, John Leguiziamo, Debbie Reynolds, Debra Monk.

Another former cop is in trouble with the law in Man on a Ledge. As the title suggests, the PG-13 crime thriller takes place on the ledge of a high-rise NYC hotel where the man is threatening to jump. While the NYPD surrounds the building and a department negotiator tries to talk him down, a huge diamond robbery is taking place in another part of the city. The drama stars Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, Jamie Bell, Anthony Mackie, Ed Harris, Edward Burns, Titus Welliver, Genesis Rodriguez, and Kyra Sedgwick. It lasts for one hour and forty-two minutes.

Survival in the icy and isolated Alaskan wilderness is what a group of oil riggers are forced to deal with when their plane crashes in The Grey. They only have a short window to get out alive and must do so despite the inclement weather and a pack of hungry wolves on their tail. Liam Neeson, Frank Grillo, and Dermot Mulroney star in the one hour and fifty-seven minute thriller. It's rated R for violence and language.

The unrated drama, Declaration of War, shows the struggle of a young couple when they find out that their young son has a brain tumor. It's based on the real life experience of its stars Jérémie Elkaïm and Valérie Donzelli. The one hour and forty minute French film is the country's submission for the Academy Awards. It's subtitled in English and playing in limited theaters.

From those behind The Wicker Man comes The Wicker Tree. In the limited released thriller, two young missionaries get more than what they bargained for when they agree to partake in the Tressock town festival. They soon find out that the welcoming people of the town aren't what they seem. The one hour and thirty minute film is rated R for sex, nudity, and violence.

Next week, the thrills turn into horror with the release of Daniel Radcliffe's The Woman in Black. It's not all scary at the box office on January 27. Drew Barrymore is releasing, Big Miracle, an uplifting true story about whales trapped in the Arctic Circle.
