
There’s something for everyone with this week’s wide releases. For the men, there’s a motorcycle riding skeleton. The kids can enjoy a new animated Disney film based on the book The Borrowers. Geared toward the ladies is a romantic comedy about two young, good looking men with the same love interest.
Two CIA agents battle it out for the same woman in This Means War. FDR Foster (Chris Pine) and Tuck (Tom Hardy) are best friends and two of the world’s most skilled operatives. Now they’re using their skills to take on each other to win the eye of Lauren (Reese Witherspoon). The PG-13 romantic comedy plays for one hour and thirty-seven minutes.
Nicolas Cage is taking on the devil once again in Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance. In this sequel to the 2007 film, Johnny Blaze is called upon by a church to protect a woman and her son from the evils of Satan. The PG-13 action/adventure film is playing in 2D and 3D theaters. It runs for one hour an thirty-six minutes.
A 12-year-old boy comes in contact with the little people living under his floor in The Secret World of Arrietty. In the Disney film, a friendship forms between the boy and a tiny 14-year girl that puts her family’s life at risk. If humans find out that she exists, her family will be put in danger and forced to leave. The G-rated animation features the voices of Bridgit Mendler, Amy Poehler, Carol Burnett, Will Arnett, David Henrie, and Moises Arias. It plays for one hour and thirty-five minutes.
In 2009, an inner-city Memphis high school football team let cameras roll on and off the field for the documentary Undefeated. In the film, the Manassas Tigers strive to win the school’s first playoff game in 110 years. It’s a coming of age story that shows the ups and downs of the teens’ lives as they yearn to make school history. The PG-13 biopic plays in limited theaters for one hour and fifty-three minutes.
An insurance salesman goes on a mission to get back with his estranged wife and bring life to his business in Thin Ice. He finally finds something that could get him a lot of money, but his luck turns sour when he gets blackmailed and caught up in a murder. The one hour and forty-nine minute drama is available in limited theaters. It's rated R for language, violence, and sex.
Three teens go out on a seal hunt in Alaska but only two come back in On the Ice. The two best friends are forced to come up with lies to explain why their comrade hasn't returned. The secret of what actually happened that day tortures them and their friendship. The one hour and thirty-six minute limited released thriller stars Greg Kinnear, Alan Arkin, Billy Crudup, and Lea Thompson. It's rated R for language, violence, and drugs.
A cattle farmer, hopped up on steroids and hormones, battles with his decisions in Bullhead. In the limited released film, Jacky Vanmarsenille proposes a shady deal with a mafioso meat trader. He begins to regret his choices when an investigating agent is killed and an ex comes back into his life. The two hour and four minute drama is rated R for violence, language, and sex.
Electronic musicians The Crystal Method, DJ Premier, Pretty Lights, Mark Ronson, and Skrillex experiment with different sounds in Re:Generation. In the documentary, each artist takes on a traditional style of music very different from their own. They come up with tracks that combine electronic music with Classical, Jazz, Country, R&B, and Rock. The unrated limited released film plays for one hour and thirty minutes.
This week there was a fictional, romantic comedy about secret operatives. Next week things get real with a film starring active duty Navy Seals entitled Act of Valor. Also making their way into theaters are new films from Tyler Perry(Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds), Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd (Wanderlust).
