Transformers Director Defends LaBeouf

Michael Bay feels LaBeouf was not acting as reckless as it seems.

Director Michael Bay is certain that troubled star Shia LaBeouf should be cleared of his drunk driving charges from his car accident last weekend, WENN reports.

The Transformers director insists that despite the serious accident, injuries, and charges placed against LaBeouf, the actor was not over the legal limit when he took the wheel.

"He was not drunk. He was drinking hours and hours before," Bay maintains.

Bay also observes that he has seen a real growth in the actor since the previous movie in the franchise and feels that LaBeouf is learning from his mistakes.

"The kid really has his head together," the director says. "He's doing a great job on this movie. He's really matured since the last one. . . ."

And Bay seems to hope that the 22-year-old can keep his act together, because, "I love working with him."
