'Transformers' Sequel Meets Expectations

The third biggest movie of the year has reached its goal of over $200 million in the first five days of release.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen achieved its goal after five days of its release.

According to Reuters, the sequel to "Transformers" earned $201 million since its Wednesday release. That is more than Paramount Pictures hoped for, which said that they expected to earn $200 million after the first week. It has also become the third biggest movie of the year in North America.

RottenTomatoes.com indicated only a fifth of America's critics recommended the film. However, the fans proved them wrong by giving the sequel $60.6 million on its opening day. Ultimately, the film is now the fourth highest-opening movie of all time.

"Revenge of the Fallen" is now behind "The Dark Knight," which earned $203.8 million in its first five days of release last summer, the Washington Post reports.

Last year, "Transformers" earned a total of $319 million during its entire run. The sequel has earned $185.8 million overseas in every country except India.
