TV Time Not Good for Children

A new study shows that the more time children spend in front of a TV, the less interactive they are with those around them.

A recent study from the University of Washington has found new findings that argue against the idea that TV programs promote interaction between parents and children. In fact, ABC News reports that researchers involved in the study argue that it inhibits interaction, and that the more time children spend listening to television, the less likely they hear those around them or speak up in conversations.

This is troublesome news for companies like Brainy Baby, So Smart, and Disney's Baby Einstein, which are at the center of a myriad of other companies who produce educational DVDs put out specifically for infants and toddlers. Claiming to encourage learning and boost interaction between parents and children, moms and dads must now ask themselves whether these DVDs really are doing what they pledge to do.

The study, headed by Dr. Dimitri A. Christakis, was based on the a test performed on 329 children and their parents.
