Twilight Already Biting Off New Records at Box Office

The vampire romance grossed $70.55 million its first weekend.

Fans have spoken and it's official, Twilight bites . . .

. . . off new records for the movie industry that is.

MTV.com reports that since its opening a mere two and a half days ago, the vampire romance has grossed a blood chilling $70.55 million.

Okay, that number's huge, but how huge exactly?

Well, for starters, that total is double what it cost to make the film. This also, reportedly, makes it the fourth-best November opening ever and the best opening a film has seen since summer blockbuster The Dark Knight.

The list of accomplishments for Twilight goes on, as it is reportedly one of the most successful independent films ever recorded and sets a record for director Catherine Hardwicke for biggest opening for a solo female director.

The movie, based off of Stephenie Meyer's story of how a young girl named Bella becomes "dazzled" by and falls in love with a vampire named Edward, is also on its way to becoming the highest grossing vampire flick off all time.

Despite the abundance of fan complaints, the film has reportedly gotten an A- cinema score and a poll done by Fandango.com reports that 63 percent of "Twilighters" said that the film dazzled them enough to make it worth going back for seconds.

So if you've been holding back, it's time to let go, take the plunge and become dazzled by the pop culture phenomenon that is Twilight.
