Twilight Author to Be Sued For Plagiarism

A little known author claims that scenes in her novel are similar to those in one of the popular "Twilight" books.

An obscure writer is planning to sue author Stephanie Meyer of the popular "Twilight" series for plagiarism. Jordan Scott claimed that some situations from her novel, "The Nocturne," are similar to ones in Meyer's "Breaking Dawn," the fourth book in the best-selling series.

Scott's novel was published in 2006, but the writer released parts of the book online prior to its publication. Meyer's book was released in 2008.

The Hachette Book Group, Meyer's publisher, released a statement saying that the books have been extremely popular and that "it shouldn't be surprising to hear that people may seek to ride the coattails of such success."

More than 70 million copies of the "Twilight" books have been sold, and a film based on the series earned more than $380 million in theaters worldwide.

Scott's attorney, J. Craig Williams, told Reuters that while the author plans to file a copyright infringement lawsuit this week or next in U.S. federal court, she will not be seeking monetary damages.
