Two VMA nominations for Asher Roth

Asher Roth may love college, but would love two VMA awards more.

The new rapper, Asher Roth, who attracted fans with his "I Love College" song, is up against tough artists in the categories "Best New Artist" and "Best Hip-Hop Video" at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. Of course, a strawberry-blonde 23-year-old man with superb rapping skills would turn heads, but in Roth's eyes, he was shocked when he heard about the nominations.

According to MTV.com, Roth stated, "That was a nice little thing to wake up to this morning." He also talked about his "I Love College" video being nominated. "We just turned the camera lights on and did what we do. It wasn't like 'Let's try to win a VMA with this one!' But I think that's the beauty of it." As per Digital Spy, he said, "I've got a 20% chance, so I'll take that."

Roth is up against Lady Gaga, Drake, Kid Cudi, and 3OH!3 for "Best New Artist." Eminem and Jay-Z will battle him for "Best Hip-Hop Video."

Reported by Rolling Stone, Roth had a big year on the radio and on the road. He may make it an even bigger year by hopefully taking home two awards on Sept. 13.
