Tyler Perry Tops Friday Box Office

The actor-director's flick earned $8.7 million its opening day.

Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself landed at the top of the box office Friday, grossing $8.6 million, according to early estimates.

The Lionsgate comedy-drama, starring Perry, Taraji P. Henson, Gladys Knight and Mary J. Blige, is on track to earning a number in the $20 million range.

Friday's premiere earnings were lower than Perry's last movie, "Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail," which garnered $14.7 million on its opening day in February.

Coming in second on Friday was Focus Features's "9," earning $3.3 million. The movie opened Wednesday, bringing its overall tally to $7.7 million.

Third place went to Summit Entertainment's "Sorority Row," which features "The Hills" star Audrina Patridge. The film earned $1.9 million.

Taking in just under $1.9 million, "Inglourious Basterds" came in fourth place. Its overall domestic total is now just below $99.7 million.

Rounding out the top five was "All About Steve," which grossed $1.8 million.
