U2 has beat the record that the Rolling Stones set back in 2007 for highest grossing concert tour. The Irish band made more than $558 million on their 360° Tour.
This is U2's first tour in over three years. The tour started in Barcelona in June 2009, and with 20 shows left to go, the band beat The Stones' record during a concert in Brazil.. The Stones made $558 million during their Bigger Bang tour from 2005 and 2007, The Guardian reports.
U2 has sold seven million tickets for the 110 shows on the tour. The band is being estimated to have made $700 million at the end of the tour, which finishes on July 30 in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, according to The Telegraph.
Paul McGuinness, U2's manager, said he and the band were proud of the tour. "That dollar figure for the gross looks enormous," he said. "Of course I can't tell you what the net is, but I can tell you that the band spend enormous sums on production for their audience. Fans all over the world agree that a ticket to U2 360° is good value for money."
U2 has already appeared on the list of the top 10 highest grossing tours of all time, with their 2005-6 Vertigo tour being #5 on the list. The Rolling Stones are on the list 4 times, in the #2,7,8 and 9 spots.
