How embarrassing would it be to lose an Oscar to a dog? Some A-list celebrities may soon find out.
The Huffington Post reported Uggie, a 9-year-old Jack Russell terrier who stars in silent film The Artist, is generating Oscar buzz.
The film recently won a Golden Globe and also stars Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo.
According to MSN, Uggie’s fans are really pushing for an Oscar nod through a Facebook campaign and other social networking outlets.
The campaign asks that dogs and other animals be allowed to receive nominations in big categories like Best Supporting Actor.
Campaign organizers are also asking people to tweet their support for the campaign by using the hash tag #consideruggie.
At this year’s Globes awards, Uggie stole the spotlight from several stars on the red carpet, even being interviewed by People magazine.
He also accompanied his costars onto the Globes stage to accept the award for Best Picture (Comedy or Musical) award.
Uggie has also earned some solo awards, including the Palm Dog award at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, meaning he’s the equivalent of George Clooney in the dog world.
