[Undercover Boss - Season 2 Episode 18]
This episode followed MGM Grand COO and President Scott Sibella. He worked his way up from the Golden Nugget and was in charge of the Mirage until he got the president position he's been in. He understood that there was such a large scale business that it would be hard to connect to every worker. Scott explained that Las Vegas was struggling with the recession and he wanted to make sure that everyone is doing fine. After talking to his children and wife, they discussed the amounts of stress that he would be under. He wanted to make sure that his children wouldn't be spoiled; but we got a juxtaposition of Scott driving an amazing red car.
Scott went to the Bellagio in his red car and talked to the rest of the other higher-ups and they want to know what the workers think. Scott explained that he was masked as "Paul Thomson" competing on a reality show. He put on his skullcap and a fake wig for the competition.
Job 1 - Blackjack Dealer - Scott met with Eddie and understood that Blackjack was the most popular game. After checking, washing, and shuffling cards, the table was ready. Eddie wanted to make sure that he was memorable and create experiences. Scott immediately fumbled the cards as everyone tried their best to keep Scott cool. He made the mistake of flipping the card to the guest instead of keeping it for himself and the floor manager had to make a ruling. The people didn't complain and one woman actually explained that everyone had to start somewhere.
During the break, Eddie was happy with his job. He explained that he had several boys and how he had no family in the area. He left because of the drugs, Vegas was rough and he was unemployed for a bit. Eddie explained that he bonded with his sons and they loved watching UFC.
Job 2 - Front Desk Agent - Scott met with Angelina and he flashbacked to 25 years ago when he was a front desk man. She prepped him with the checking-in computer and explained that the system was new. Angelina explained that she's been working for two years and she was very chipper about the whole process and that was just her personality. Scott had his first check in and he struggled with the key cards. The machine froze as he was trying to figure out the system; apparently the new system wasn't as effective as what it replaced. Angelina pointed out that the system was too slow and there were too many windows.
Angelina went for a smoke break as Scott and Angelina propped the door open and smoked in a bad area in front of the guests. She dreamed of moving to Colorado, but never had time to deal with her husband and children.
Job 3 - Roulette Dealer - Scott met with Donn and understood that the game was one of the more popular table games. Donn explained the payouts and Scott was confused immediately. Donn taught Scott how to do a ball roll and he did several terrible rolls. The customers got a bit restless as Scott struggled some more; he then put his hands in his pockets. Apparently, it was the one cardinal rule that should never be broken. Scott had issues with dealing out chips, but Donn was trying his best to be comforting. He explained that he came back from Vietnam and had PTSD.
He complained a bit about the smokers with the smoke in his face and Donn's doctor's complaints, but he took his work in stride. There was a small fan by the table, but it wasn't that effective.
Job 4 - Guest Service Representative - Scott met with Sandy and they had to work with the loyalty program. The two complained a bit about the carpeting. Sandy explained how to clean the areas and convince people to join the loyalty program. She succeeded getting a guy to join the rewards club. When Scott tried to get sign-ups and failed, Sandy realized that it was the worst day she's ever seen. Sandy pointed out that there was no incentive program for signing up for the card (but we never hear an update about that problem again).
Sandy explained that they were married for 26 years and she's volunteered for the nursing home. During the break, the two went to the nursing home to drop off flowers. She explained that the nursing home gave her piece of mind.
At the end of the last day, Scott's family went to the hotel and the family had a sit-down dinner. Scott wanted his children to volunteer and wanted to make sure that his children wouldn't be spoiled.
Scott convinced the four workers to go to a high end suite instead of the offices because he thought that they would get suspicious. The idea seemed moot since none of the four knew who he was. Angelina felt embarrassed and thought she wasn't as professional as she could have been. Scott was moved with Sandy and wanted to make sure that he was helping with community service. He got her an all-expenses paid cruise and donated $5,000 to the charity in Sandy's name. Scott was disturbed by the smoke break that Angelina took because it wasn't professional, but it wasn't really her fault. He was impressed by the front desk, but he promised that he will fix the computer system. He gave Angelina a one-week paid vacation. Scott was happy working with Donn and explained that he would place more fans on the tables to diffuse the smoke better. The coach of Oklahoma gave Donn a signed helmet and got him VIP box seats for one game during one day. He's placing a donation for veterans in Donn's name. Scott was impressed by both Eddie's skills and his family skills. He gave Eddie $10,000 and a VIP UFC experience.
Scott revealed his Undercover Boss doings and had several moments of fumbles. He understood the culture and became part of the MGM family.
Epilogue: Donn got tickets in October against the Longhorns. Angelina wanted to advance to HR and smokes in the correct areas. Eddie reunited with his sons during a UFC game. With so many more flowers, Sandy now visits two nursing homes.
