Unheard Beatles Song to Be Released

McCartney hopes to get 14 minute track released.

It is a monumental week for fans of the Beatles. "Carnival of Light," an unreleased Beatles song, will finally be released, announced Paul McCartney to BBC. The 14 minute song was recorded by the iconic band in 1967 after the vocals for Penny Lane were taped. The track is rumored to have distorted electric guitars, disconnected sound effects, a church organ, gargling sounds, and McCartney and Lennon yelling the phrases "Barcelona" and "Are you all right?" McCartney told the BBC that he instructed the other Beatles members to "just wander round all of the stuff and bang it, shout, play it. It doesn't need to make sense." He added, "I like it because it's the Beatles free." The song, which inspired composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, was unreleased when it was recorded due to the avant-garde style experimentation. McCartney reportedly wanted "Carnival of Light" to be featured on the Beatles' Anthology, which was released in the mid-1990s, but the rest of the band disagreed. Now, in order for the mythical song to be released, McCartney must still get the permission of Ringo Starr and the widows of John Lennon and George Harrison, which the musician hopes they will give. "The time has come for it to get its moment," McCartney said.
