United States soccer player Charlie Davies has been released from the hospital, nearly a month after he was involved in a fatal car accident.

The 23-year old forward has undergone several surgeries after the October 13 crash in which one person was killed.

In a statement, Davies' doctor, James DeBritz, said that Davies will need months of extensive therapy to recover from multiple injuries, including several broken bones and a lacerated bladder. Davies is expected to miss 6-12 months, ruling him out of the World Cup which begins in June.

Police report that three people were in the one car accident which occurred on October 13th at 3 a.m., just outside Washington D.C. Davies was a passenger in the vehicle along with 22 year-old Ashley Roberta who died at the scene of the accident. Police have not released the name of the driver and investigation into the cause of the crash is still underway.

Davies was a starter for the U.S. soccer team, and was expected to bring a major contribution to this year's World Cup. Davies played in 8 games for the U.S. team in the 2009-10 season, scoring four goals with one assist.
