USA Tells Amy Winehouse to Go Home
It's hard to jumpstart a career in the USA when you continually get denied entry. British singer Amy Winehouse will not be able to perform at next month's Coachella Music and Arts Festival, Telegraph.co.uk reports. She reportedly is not able to get a U.S. visa due to an assault charge. She allegedly assaulted a woman in Westminster, UK, in September, after the fan asked her for a photo.
"She is not appearing at Coachella this year in the light of current legal issues," Winehouse's spokesman told the Telegraph. The singer herself was said to be "absolutely gutted" about not being able to perform.
Winehouse was set to be one of the headliners at the Coachella festival, which will take place from April 17 through April 19 near the California town of the same name. Musical heavyweights like the Killers, Paul McCartney, Morrissey and the Cure will perform. About 75,000 people are expected to attend, including many top record executives.
The whole story seems familiar: Winehouse was denied a U.S. visa for the Grammy Awards last year due to her drug problems. She was forced to perform via satellite.
