Now that the jig is up with the return of the Original vampire mother, Esther, do you actually want Klaus, Elijah, and company to die? I for one would be sad to see them go, and Elena feels the same way, at least when it comes to Elijah. So, when Elena turns to the Salvatore brothers with her guilty conscience, for once none of them is on her side.
As Elena tries to reach Damon in the morning, he’s preoccupied with Rebekah, and when she finds Rebekah doing the walk of shame, let’s just say that the jealousy was palpable.
At the mansion protected by souls of dead witches, Bonnie and Abby meet Esther and Finn. With the Original members bound, Esther can now start channeling the witches’ energy to finally kill the Original children. But time is ticking when they need a full moon to harness that energy.
Elijah has requested Elena to come with him to the site where his family lived before Mystic Falls became what it is today. After explaining to Elena the many tunnels underneath where they’re standing, Elijah confronts Elena about how he could tell she was lying to him.
Elena denies lying, but it’s hard to fake it when a vampire can hear your heartbeat race. Before Elena realizes it, Elijah pounds the floor of the earth and they fall through lightening-speed.
With no cell phone reception, Elena is wary about what’s going on before she runs into someone who is not too fond of her down there: Rebekah.
The Salvatore brothers suspect that Elena’s in trouble, but when regal Elijah shows up to offer them a proposition of helping his family stop Esther from killing them or Elena dies, Stefan and Damon scramble to find a way to save Elena.
Sending Caroline as a flirty distraction for Klaus, the Salvatore brothers also ask Alaric and Dr. Fell to play their part by daggering Kol, the other Original vampire. If one member of the Original family is killed, they’re all killed. However, when Klaus and Elijah come back for backup, the Salvatores need a back-up plan.
Back at the tunnels, Elena attempts to run from Rebekah. Right when Kol was daggered, Rebekah was weakened enough for Elena to run towards the cave drawings, where she could be safe from vampires.
Stefan and Damon weigh their choices. They could either kill Bonnie or her mother to sever the witch bond or let Elena die. They know that if it were up to Elena, she would just sacrifice herself, but what’s another way? What if they turned Abby into a vampire?
At the end, when Esther and Finn disappear with their plans ruined, Rebekah discovers something that’s detrimental for her family. The old oak tree that can be used to kill an Original member is still growing somewhere out there, so we have not seen the last of the Originals.
Meanwhile, Alaric is back at Meredith’s place, recuperating after getting slugged in the fight with Klaus while getting rid of Kol. As he wanders through the kitchen, Alaric uncovers some pretty substantial evidence against Meredith that’s about to blow his mind (pun intended).
Questions, Thoughts, Spoilers:
- Will all the Originals leave Mystic Falls? What was your favorite Original?
- Even though Caroline knew her purpose in distracting Klaus, is she gradually succumbing to his charms?
- Bonnie has a right to be mad at Elena, but Elena didn’t make that decision to kill Abby. Do you think Bonnie’s hatred for vampires will deepen, or will she remain a mediator as balance of nature?
- Will Abby’s transition into a vampire follow through?
- What’s going to happen to Alaric?
