Vanessa Receives 2,331st Star

The Hollywood Walk of Fame added its 2,331st star in honor of actress Vanessa Williams. Williams, a former Miss America, stepped down and abdicated her crown when scandalous nude photographs of her surfaced. But she proved the doubters and critics wrong by getting acting role after acting role.

For the ceremony in front of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Monday, Williams' Ugly Betty costars were in attendance. On the hit show, Williams is a tough editor for a magazine. Ugly Betty producer, Salma Hayek, has said about casting the actress, "We were really happy to get Vanessa. She is brilliant because she is so nasty on the show, but in reality she is the sweetest person."

The former Miss America has also been nominated for Grammys, sung on Broadway, and acted for both TV and film. Williams thanked her costars warmly for turning up on their day off from taping, as well as her family for helping her follow her dreams. "The sun didn't shine today," she said, "but my heart is shining."
