Vatican Boycotts "Angels"

The adaptation of Dan Brown's best seller has been dubbed "problematic" by the Vatican.

The much anticipated follow-up to The Da Vinci Code may be boycotted by the most religious city in the world. According to hollywoodreporter.com, the Vatican is planning to abstain from the movie, of which the church "cannot approve."

Avvenire, the church's newspaper, has recently run a story claiming that the church objects because they view the film as "problematic."

Although there are many who believe the boycott is appropriate, Archbishop Velasio De Paolis has warned against it. He believes that it would call attention to the film, causing a "boomerang effect," which would make the film more popular as a result of the boycott.

The film's producers were denied by the Vatican when they asked to film a few scenes in the church.

This is not the first time that the church has called for a boycott. They attempted one in 2006 for The Da Vinci Code, though it did little to affect the popularity of the film.

Both The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons are based upon best-selling novels by Dan Brown. Angels and Demons is set to release in May, and is directed by Ron Howard.
