Voice of Mickey Mouse Dies

Wayne Allwine, who provided the voice of Mickey Mouse for 32 years, dies at 62.

Actor Wayne Allwine, who served as the voice of Mickey Mouse since 1976, died yesterday from complications of diabetes.

Starting as an employee in Disney's mailroom in 1966, Allwine worked his way up to voicing the famous cartoon mouse for 32 years in addition to earning the title of Emmy winner of sound effects editing in the 1986 NBC series, Amazing Stories, according to EW.com.

Allwine, who was first heard as Mickey in The New Mickey Mouse Club, Mickey's Christmas Carol and then later in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, was also the third person to voice Mickey, succeeding Walt Disney in 1928 and Jimmy MacDonald.

Allwine's wife, actor Russi Taylor, provided the voice of Minnie Mouse. Similar to Minnie, who always stuck by Mickey, Allwine died with Taylor by his side.

Though Allwine is gone, his voice can still be heard at theme parks around the world, according to EW.com.

He was 62.
