Wal-Mart defends itself against Kanye West ban, claims they never saw the artwork

Late Sunday, always controversial rapper Kanye West ranted on Twitter, claiming that retail giant Wal-Mart banned the album cover for West’s upcoming album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. He tweeted, "Banned in the USA!!! They don't want me chilling on the couch with my phoenix!" He then posted the artwork depicting two human-like figures nude and in a suggestive sexual position.

West went on to mention the retail store by name, adding, “In all honesty ... I really don’t be thinking about Wal-Mart when I make my music or album covers #Kanyeshrug!”

Wal-Mart today is trying its best to stay out of this story, reports EW.com, releasing the following statement: “We’re excited about Kanye West’s new album and we look forward to carrying it in our stores on November 22nd. As always, it’s our standard practice to carry the edited parental advisory version. We did not reject the cover artwork and it was never presented to us to view.”

According to the LA Times, there are concerns within West’s label with whether or not chain stores such as Best Buy and Wal-Mart would carry the album featuring “Venemous nudes.”
