Warner Bros. to Produce Live-Action Flick Based on "Thundercats"
In a new breakthrough for audacious originality, Warner Brothers has just announced that it intends to produce a live-action movie based on the 1980s cartoon and toy franchise Thundercats. For those deprived, sequestered souls who aren't familiar with the show's premise, it concerns "a species of humanoid cats-including Lion-O, Tygra, Panthro, and Cheetara-who escape from their doomed homeworld of Thundera to Third Earth, where they do battle with the evil sorcerer Mumm-Ra", according to IGN.com. The producers will include Paula Weinstein, who was also behind Blood Diamond; the screenwriter, Paul Sopocy, is a rookie-he's currently a print advertising writer at Fox Broadcasting. He has specific ideas about the storyline, though, commenting, "the plot [will focus] on Lion-O coming of age as the leader of the Thundercats". Congratulations, Hollywood: you've now regressed to cannibalizing forgotten 1980s cartoons.
