Warner Bros. Sets Its Sights on New Kids Book Series

The studio won the bid for the film rights to the series "Skulduggery Pleasant" by Derek Landy

In line with its popular "Harry Potter" film series, Warner Bros. recently won the rights to another popular children's book series, "Skulduggery Pleasant," by Irish author Derek Landy. The studio won the bidding war for the rights to the nine-book series, paying over $1 million.

Landy's books are in a similar vein as Rowling's "Potter" series, depicting a skeleton and his young assistant Stephanie who must stop the evil "Faceless Ones" from attacking. Capitalizing on the popularity of books about the containment of evil and heroic saviors, Landy's book has been translated into 25 languages, receiving much acclaim.

The first book was released six weeks ago, published under HarperCollins.
