Warner's Good Fortune Means More Super Hero Films

Will 'Wonder Woman' finally make it to the big screen?

Warner Bros. has revealed over a conference call that their quarterly earnings have been much better than expected. What does this mean for film goers? Why, more super hero film adaptations, of course!

According to a transcript by Seeking Alpha (via IGN Movies), Time Warner Chairman and CEO revealed, "About our plans for DC, and basically if you look across the title of the whole band of hits, whether its Batman, The Dark Knight, Green Lantern coming up, Superman, there have been a huge number of franchised films that have been part of the Warner [tent pole] strategy that's been the reason for Warner's unparallel[ed] high and consistent earnings advantage over the other studios."

Their intention is to "mine" DC Comics' rich legacy of heroes for film, TV, and even video game adaptations, with announcements and presentations on their future plans forthcoming in the next few weeks. Aside from film adaptations, Warner Bros. has had success with their direct-to-video animated features, which was produced by the legendary Batman: The Animated Series' co-creator Bruce Timm.

The most interesting part of this announcement, however, is what it could mean for Wonder Woman, whose film has been stuck in development hell for what seems like forever. Everyone from Lucy Lawless to Sandra Bullock have been rumored to be starring in the film, and Buffy and Dollhouse creator Joss Whedon was once attached to direct, but nothing serious has been announced. The only female super heroes to be given their own movies have been Elektra and Catwoman, with all other female heroes sharing the spotlight with teammates. Could the first lady of comics finally get her just dues?
