Warren Buffett Treated to Meal by Auction Winner
In a high-stakes online bidding game, Zhao Danyang, the general manager of Hong Kong's Pure Heart China Growth Investment Fund, bid enough to secure a meal with the billionaire, according to AFP. Danyang, along with seven friends, will eat with Buffett at Smith and Wollensky steak house in New York City.
The bidding for the meal with Buffett began at $25,000, and every bidder was pre-vetted to make sure each bid could be paid, according to AFP. With last year's bid having been $650,100, Danyang certainly upped the stakes this year.
Proceeds from Danyang's bid will benefit the Glide Foundation, which aids the homeless and the hungry. Based in San Francisco, the charity organization feeds hundreds of thousands of people from the city's Tenderloin district, and helps those who are disadvantaged get back on their feet.
Buffett, who is worth approximately $62 billion, gained his fortune through heading the Berkshire Hathaway holding firm, according to AFP.
