Watchmen Film Falls Short of Expectations at the Box Office
According to Reuters, the Watchmen movie had taken over two decades to finally reach the big screen, yet the ticket sales fell short of expectations.
The cult classic comic book series made $55.7 million at the box office, after its release on Friday. But box office analysts expected the film's opening to be in the $60 million-plus range, which was considerably lower than the Watchmen director Zack Snyder's previous film, 300, which made over $70 million after its weekend opening in March of 2007.
The superhero film had cost $120 million to make. But one of the film's distributors, Warner Bros. Pictures, isn't nervous about the lower than expected ticket sales. Dan Fellman, who is the studio's president of domestic theatrical distribution, said, "Our expectations were met."
