Weather Channel to Be Sold

The Weather Channel and all its assets are to be sold this Friday to the highest bidder.

The Weather Channel network, the one we all watch before we leave our houses for the day, is to possibly be bought out by the partnership, NBC Universal-Blackstone Group LP. Another runner in the bidding for the cable network is Time Warner Inc., said Reuters.

The bids should come to about $3-4 billion with the winning bidder closer to the middle of those two points. The deadline for the bidding was moved from May 8 to this coming Friday, though the decision may be made earlier.

The business is held in high standards and has come to be very attractive to advertisers as well as audiences. The programs have gained more than 96 million U.S. subscribers and can be seen on upwards of 97 percent of all cable TV homes across the nation, reported Reuters.

The Web site the Weather Channel made for itself gets about 35 million hits a month, said Landmark, its owner currently. With this much Web traffic, it ranks at the 20 most visited sites and the top place to go for weather as well as information and news.
