Weekend Box-Office Report
Unsurprisingly, "Superbad," which was much anticipated and received good reviews, dominated the box-office over the weekend, earning $31.2 million.
Also in the top 5 were last week's leader "Rush Hour 3," with $21.8 million earned over the weekend; "The Bourne Ultimatum," with $19 million; "The Simpsons Movie," which has taken in a total of $670 million since it opened; and "The Invasion," which opened last Friday and took in $6 million.
"Superbad" also broke the box-office record for a movie opening in late August, which was held -- don't scream -- by the 1995 "Mortal Kombat" ($23 million on its first weekend). "Snakes on a Plane," the movie that came out this weekend last year, only took in $15.2 million that weekend. All in all, the earnings from last weekend provided yet more evidence that box-office revenues this summer are much healthier than they were last year.
