Welcome Back, Leno

Comedian returns to late-night TV.
Jay Leno Digs Peace!

Tomorrow is the big night: Jay Leno will be reclaiming his old time slot as the host of NBC's The Tonight Show. Now, the question on everyone's mind is whether he can recover the show's dipping ratings.

The Tonight Show suffered a significant loss in viewership during Conan O'Brien's seven-month tenure, and Jay Leno's "nice guy" reputation took a heavy blow during NBC's negotiations with O'Brien. In light of the heavily-scrutinized incident, it is unsure whether Leno will be able to commandeer a strong enough following to regain the lead over prime competitor David Letterman of CBS.

NBC, for its part, doesn't seem ready to take chances and has recruited a host of big-name guests for Monday's and Tuesday's shows, including Olympic gold-medalist Shaun White, former Governor Sarah Palin, actor Jamie Foxx, and musical guest Adam Lambert.

And yet network talk of the show has been strangely sparse in comparison to last fall's heavy-handed promotions for The Jay Leno Show. Aside from one or two Winter Olympics ads announcing that "the chin" was back, news of the show has been kept tightly under wraps.

"The chin" himself has declined interviews. By the look of things, Leno and NBC are hoping for an explosive reappearance on the air, one grand enough to make audiences and "Coco" supporters put the late night debacle long behind them.
