The White Stripes Release New Album and Documentary
Throughout their career, The White Stripes have emerged as one of the most dynamic and eclectic bands of recent years. They’ve proven that their music is much more than rock, but transcends all genres of music. Their newest album Under Great White Northern Lights has been released not only as a single CD, but can also be purchased along with a documentary that follows the band on their Canadian tour.
The Vancouver Sun reviews the band’s new release, which was recorded live, as a solo CD and as a package with the new documentary. As a single CD, the article rates the CD as 3 ½ stars out of 5 and 4 out of 5 for the duo package.
To sum it up, the article declares that the package is “a raw, heart-pounding experience that needs to be witnessed both visually and aurally.”
The critic finds that the documentary is so good that it brings to mind Gimme Shelter, the acclaimed documentary about the Rolling Stones.
Without the documentary, the album has a much different feel to it. The sound differs due to the distinct nature of each live performance. The critic believes that in some instances, this effect hurts some of the songs and makes them less poignant. As a result, they are much more effective with the companion DVD.
Even so, however, the critic cannot deny that this package is a must have for all White Stripes fans.
