Whitford and Malco Sign On to New Cop Show

It will be on NBC.

Emmy winner Bradley Whitford has signed on to produce and star in a single-camera comedy pilot for NBC, called Off Duty.

Romany Malco, whose most recent venture on television was as Conrad on Weeds, will play the second lead in the show. The pilot is scheduled to be shot in July.

Off Duty was written by comedian Jason Mantzoukas, and is about a formerly-legendary police detective (played by Whitford). His life is falling apart, and things get more complicated once he partners with a new partner (Malco) - who is described as "a straight shooter on his way up - both on duty and off," by the Hollywood Reporter.

Whitford is best known for his role as Josh Lyman on NBC's The West Wing. He played the character for seven years, and won an Emmy for his work in the second season. He was also in the short-lived Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
