Whitney's Comeback

After a 7-year absence, Houston will release new album in September

The icon, the legend, Whitney Houston makes it official. She's back. For the first time in seven years, the singing sensation of the 1980's and '90's will release her highly anticipated comeback album on Sept. 1. That is precisely 88 days, 23 hours, 50 minutes and 1 second from now. Don't trust my math, just go to her website to see the countdown clock ticking off the seconds until her new album, titled, "The Wait is Over," reintroduces Whitney.

It is being reported that Houston is collaborating with legendary producer Clive Davis, who said to expect the Whitney of old. Rumors are swirling about potential duets with R.Kelly, collaborations with R&B superstar Akon and Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, and more. However, Davis says this album is about Houston getting back to her roots. A video on her website hyping her return looks to remind everyone about those roots.

"The Wait is Over" will be Houston's seventh album in a career that has spanned 24 years. However, it will be her first release of original material since her 2002 album "Just Whitney." Between that time the vocal force behind such classics as "I Will Always Love You" battled the addictions that threw her career into a tail spin in the last decade. After several stints in rehab and her long-promised comeback in motion, things are looking up for the woman who has sold more than 170 million albums and received more awards than any other female artist ever.

No track listing has been posted, however, a single off the album is expected to reach the airwaves by the summer. According to Entertainment News, the first single is titled "I didn't Know My Own Strength," written by Diane Warren.
