Who Will Receive the Palme d'Or at Cannes?
The crowd warmly received the two French films that were entered into the festival this year; Jacques Audiard's A Prophet and Xavier Giannoli's In the Beginning. However, according to the Associated Press the big name filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino and Ang Lee are still in the running. Tarantino headed the Cannes jury that awarded Fahrenheit 9/11, by Michael Moore, the top prize. Tarantino's own movie, Pulp Fiction, won the Palme d'Or in 1994. Tarantino says that the jury talks together about their points of view and that any buzz means nothing at all.
According to The Envelope (Los Angeles Times), director Lars von Trier, another big name, has entered a controversial film, titled Antichrist, which is in response to his manic depression that left him unable to work. According to the National Post, the movie already won a faux preliminary award, called the anti-award, because of its supposed suggestion that women are evil beings who deserved their persecution throughout history.
