Why Are Fans Overlooking Jackson's Dark Side?

Michael Jackson's fans are loyal after his death.

Although Michael Jackson was a talented performer with enormous success, he also had a dark side that has been controversial for years.

According to Reuters, fans are overlooking Jackson's shadow side that involved prescription drugs and claims of child molestation. Elvis Presley fans did the same thing after his death, forgetting he was a drug addict.

Dave Marsh, author of the book, "Trapped: Michael Jackson and the Crossover Dream," said, "It was all over after the trial." Marsh is referring to the 2005 trial, which involved Jackson and serious allegations of child molestation. "For me, I think he was dead as a celebrity before he was dead as a person. It was pretty pathetic, the last few years. He managed to whittle himself down to size. It's a shame, really," Marsh told Reuters.

ABC News columnist Michael Malone questions if Jackson's death saved his reputation. And that is a question that will never be answered, but his songs have been downloaded many times by the public since his June 25 death.

It has been reported that Jackson's comeback tour was already on its way towards disaster, according to ABC News. Given the shape the singer was in when he died, it seems impossible that he would have been able to pull off 50 successful shows at the O2 Arena outside of London.

Since his death, Jackson is having his biggest run since the release of "Thriller," reports ABC News.
