Why Zac Efron Said No to "Footloose"
Zac Efron doesn't want to be "type-cast as the musical guy."
Zac Efron told Entertainment Weekly that he said no to the Footloose remake because "he didn't want to be type-cast as the musical guy," the magazine writes.
Efron said the "unknown" appeals to him and that the actors he admires are always exploring their skills.
"The actors that I love and the actors that work really hard in this industry are always shaking things up, trying new genres, acquiring new skill sets," he said.
So, Efron opted to play a young cemetery caretaker where his younger brother is buried, EW.com reports. In The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud, Efron will talk to his deceased younger brother and fall romantically for a woman thought to be missing, prompting him to question if the relationship is real or a vision.
